MAGPIE JAY

 Age: About 3 years

 Height: Body is 8 inches; tail is 13 inches

 Weight: 1/2 pound

 Born: At a bird-breeding business in California

 In the wild: These birds live in the woods and shrubs of northwestern Mexico.

 Family: Mothers lay 3-4 eggs in a nest. They keep the eggs warm while the father and other jays bring them food.

 Food: In the wild, berries, fruits, bugs and sometimes mice. At the zoo, pellets, fruits and vegetables.

 Fun fact: Their tails are much longer than their bodies. These birds also hide food to come back and eat later.
