Milton and Mary Allmandinger

Milton and Mary Allmandinger

Milton and Mary, of Fort Wayne, recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. They were married February 19, 1944, at Grace Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne.

They are the parents of Steven Allmandinger of Hoagland, Thomas Allmandinger and Sue Weterick of Fort Wayne. They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Milton is retired from General Electric and Mary is retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools.

They met on an elevator when they were both working at General Electric, and had their first date on Friday the 13th. Because gasoline was rationed during WWII, most of their dates were on Milton's Harley Davidson. For special occasions, Milton borrowed his brother's car. Six months after they were married, they were involved in a motorcycle accident and became the first couple to share a room at St. Joseph Hospital.
