Virgil and Doris Schaefer

Virgil and Doris (Collar) Schaefer

Virgil and Doris Schaefer will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on December 25th. They were married at the Collar family farm, outside of Vaughnsville, Ohio on Christmas day, 1954.

Virgil retired from both the United States Air Force and the U.S. Post Office after 20 years of service. For the next 20 years, Virgil was a member of various mission teams traveling to Mexico, Uraguay, Russia and a number of countries in Central America. Virgil, Doris and their two children, Susan and Steven, lived in Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio, West Germany and Indiana while Virgil served in the Air Force. Doris worked as an executive secretary to the manager of the Funeral Coach Division of Superior Coach Company and was a 4-H leader, as well as a Bible school teacher before she married Virgil. After having children, Doris worked as a homemaker and volunteered as a scout leader, as a Bible school teacher, and as a volunteer in countless roles at each church the family attended.
