Donald and Janet (Helms) Ahlersmeyer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, September 19th. They were honored at a special family dinner near their new Lake James home, hosted by their six children.
Their marriage has been blessed with six children, Thomas (Janet), Amy, David (Shelley), Steven (Kathryn), Julia Clary (David), and Laura Stahl (David). They are the proud grandparents of 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
They met at Ball State and were married September 19, 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana at Trinity English Lutheran Church by Dr. Paul Krauss. Through their mutual support and encouragement, Don earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ball State and a doctorate from George Peabody, and Janet earned undergraduate (Kent State) and graduate (Ball State) degrees. Don retired as full professor in Special Education from Ball State University. Janet is a retired first-grade teacher from Muncie Community Schools.
